Réalisation - Vertical axis wind turbine

  • Etape 1

Report the elements and the location of the holes on the cardboard or the transparent sheet following the template.

Using an awl or a drill, drill 5 holes and cut along the lines with a pair of scissors.

Decorate the propeller board with felt pens or colour pencils. If you use a plastic transparent sheet use stained glass paint.

  • Etape 2

Remove the screws of a large electric connector and push outside the metal part with a screwdriver.

  • Etape 3

Remove the tip of the dynamo with the help of a box cutter and pliers.

  • Etape 4

Drill the cork lengthwise with an M5 bit. Align the holes of each "tab" of the propeller in the centre.

Place the cork in between the tabs and the back of the propeller.

  • Etape 5

Pass the long screw from the front through the 4 tab holes, the cork and finally the back hole.

Pass a washer and a nut and tighten the propeller on its axis by using 2 wrenches.

Avertissement It is important to securely tighten the nut so that the propeller is totally joint to the axis.

Join (tighten) the propeller axis and the dynamo with the metal connector.

  • Etape 6

Drill an M4 hole at 1 cm from the top of the long slat. Secure the dynamo to the slat with a screw, a washer, and an M4 wingnut.

  • Etape 7

drill a hole in the plastic tube.

  • Etape 8

Bend the "legs" of the LED and screw them into the pair of electrical connectors.

  • Etape 9

Strip the ends of two fine 15 cm eletric wires. Connect them on the other side of the pair of electrical connectors.

Attach a  "crocodile" clip at the end of one of the two ends. Introduce the electric connectors block into the tube and fix it by screwing through the tube's hole.

  • Etape 10

Finish by screwing the tube firmly to the long slat.

Connect the crocodile clip to the metal connector of the dynamo.

Connect the other wire to the back of the dynamo.
