Réalisation - Solar hot water panel

  • Etape 1

Cut the 5 pieces of polyurethane.

Fix the 4 strips around the big rectangle using some glue and screws - 4 screws from the rear and 3 screws to hold the strips together.

Avertissement Do not screw the right top corner side.

  • Etape 2

Using an awl create two 8mm holes in the pet bottle cap.

Position your cap close to the back right  of the polyurethane top strip and mark the places of the holes. Drill through these marks until you reach the other side.

  • Etape 3

Bend the copper tube to form a circuit as shown.

Do not create too pronounced angles as it could "fold" the tube.

The use of special pliers avoids this risk and gives a more regular shape to the circuit. Place the copper circuit in the center of the panel by passing first (from inside) the two tube ends through the holes.

  • Etape 4

Attach the circuit against the panel by tying it with some metal wires. Pass the wire through the layer of polyurethane and tie it the other side. Small pieces of cardboard can avoid the wire from cutting through the foam.

With some universal glue, seal the surrounding of the tubes inside de panel and let it dry.

Do the same thing where the tubes come out on the other side. Pass the cap on the tubes and push against the glue. Fill the cap with about 1 cm of glue. Let it dry.

  • Etape 5

Cut the PET bottle to create a funnel.

  • Etape 6

While the glue in the cap is not yet completely dry, screw gently the bottle on its cap. Let the solar panel dry in a vertical position.

When dry, check with a bit of water if the system is watertight.

Spray the inside of the solar panel with black paint.

  • Etape 7

Glue the glass on the panel and tape all around with black fabric adhesive tape.
