Réalisation - Molding

  • Manufacture of the mold paste

  • Etape 1

Mix well all the ingredients (maizena, sodium bicarbonate, water) in a bowl.

  • Etape 2

Put the bowl in a microwave for 15 seconds at max power.

A crater should form in the center with a little liquid in the middle.

{#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Instead of microwaves, it is possible to put the liquid to heat in a saucepan over low heat and evaporate the water while mixing with a spoon to obtain a paste.

  • Etape 3

Mix everything. If the dough is too wet, warm it again for 10 seconds, until you get a consistency close to the modeling clay.

  • Etape 4

Knead the dough well until it is homogeneous.

  • Molding

  • Etape 5

Cover your thumb with dough and press lightly so that the imprint is well marked (without air pockets).

  • Etape 6

With a non-sharp knife, cut a slot on the edge of the mold

  • Etape 7

Open the slit gently to remove the thumb.

  • Etape 8

Put the two edges of the slot back together (do not force).

  • Etape 9

Let it air dry for 24 hours with the hole facing up.

    Patience!

  • Casting

  • Etape 10

Remove the wick and metal part of the tea candle.

Break the candle into small pieces and put the pieces in a glass.

    Add a teaspoon of water.

  • Etape 11

Put the glass with the candle pieces in the microwave (or bain-marie) for 30 seconds.

Check that everything has melted, otherwise put back another 20 seconds, etc.

  • Etape 12

Take a little melted wax in a spoon and plug the slot and any other holes in the mold.

{#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} The mold must be completely watertight.

  • Etape 13

Pour the rest of the wax into the mold, all the way to the top.

Store the mold vertically until the wax has completely solidified.

  • Etape 14

Remove the mold in small pieces, being careful not to remove any wax.

If there are traces of mold left, it is possible to let the mold soak in a glass of cold water to soften these traces and then wipe them gently of.
