How to use ? - Solar Steam machine

  • Step 1

Download and print the diagram (under section Blueprint/Plans) on an A4 sheet.

{#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Do downsize the diagram to fit the page, but print even if some elements are not printed in the edges.

Transfer the diagram to the A4 polyurethane insulation board. With a cutter, cut out all the red lines to form 5 pieces.

  • Step 2

Use the M16 aluminum tube as a piece cutter to puncture a hole in the center of the largest piece of insulation.

Mark the path of the large circle with an awl and widen it with a screwdriver. With a rotational movement, push the glass into the slot of the large circle. It should hold well in place but still be removed without much effort.

{#lang_bricoWikiWarnings_warning} Avoid screwing the cup while holding its handle as it might brake.

  • Step 3

Drill, glue and screw the different elements (top, insulation, mirror) according to the diagrams opposite.

  • Step 4

Cut a circle of about 2.5cm diameter out of thick aluminium (e.g. baking tray). Cover circle with fast epoxy glue and glue the tube to it to ensure a watertight seal.

  • Step 5

After the glue has dried completely, cut the aluminium circle to reduce its size and spray the tube in  black paint. Pass the tube through the insulation hole, protruding 2cm on the other side.

  • Step 6

Drill a hole in the bottom of the plastic cup.

Use adhesive tape to create a hinge to fix it to the 'wall'.

Stick Velcro to the cup and to the wall. The cup can then be lifted up and secured to allow access to the tube.

  • Step 7

Close the access under the mirror on one side with a door made of cardboard and 3 screws. On the other side, close the space under the mirror by gluing the remaining small piece of insulation.

  • Step 8

    (1) Shorten the plastic tube to 1.5 cm.

    (2) Cut a notch according to the model below.

    (3) With an awl, drill 2 holes on either side near the edge.

    (4) Slide a piece of rigid electrical wire through the holes.

    (5) Pass a pin in the thickness of the plastic insulation of the electrical wire.

  • Step 9

Using a rivet and thick aluminium foil (self-adhesive or fixed with glue), create a turbine as shown below. The blades should not exceed the height of the rivet and should not be too wide so that they can rotate freely inside the plastic tube.

  • Step 10

Add some threads from a metal sponge to the tube and use cardboard to make a wedge to tilt the steam machine. Put a pin in the top to help orient the oven. Gather all the necessary accessories: turbines, plastic tube, cup, pin, balloon, pipette, base.
