The sun's rays pass through the slit in the cardboard and then pass through the surface of the water so the light is 'broken' down. When the colours come out of the bag, they are still very close to each other. To distinguish them clearly, take a white sheet of paper and, starting from the bag, move the sheet backwards until it is on the ground.
